Colorado Internship
Rachel Alden's Internship in Colorado
In the summer of 2006 I trained horses in Colorado. My internship consisted of three parts: training a mare who had never been ridden before; working with yearling colts at a thoroughbred farm where I trained them for the races; and finally doing long, challenging trail rides through the mountains and canyons of Western Colorado.
The people that I worked with became my good friends and taught me much. I will never forget the horses, especially the mare that I trained so that she could be ridden out in the canyons. She and I worked through some problems, eventually breaking through to trust each other and communicate effectively. She will live in my memory forever.
My internship experience was amazing. My summer in Colorado taught me new and powerful things about horses and people, and about myself and my beliefs.
