Welcome to the Bryn Athyn College Biology Major Home Page
The biology major at Bryn Athyn College provides students with a solid background for further graduate education, medical school, or the work force. The disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry, earth science, and computer science support this program with rigorous courses and well-qualified faculty.
Bryn Athyn College of the New Church has an evolving biology program with two main strengths: ecological sciences, or the study of the environment and our relationship to it; and molecular biology, or the study of genetics, disease, and the biological codes of life. The four-year biology major program now has two degree options as well: a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts. The program combines a renewed dedication to useful scientific research with a broad range of courses in both biology and religion.
Science and religion are often viewed as rivals or simply as completely separate spheres of engagement. These two “world views” generally have had an uneasy partnership in answering the great questions of the origin and nature of the universe, of life, and of humankind. New Church scientists have an advantage of being capable of understanding how the two foundations of truth on spiritual and natural planes—the Word and nature—agree with each other. Our faculty has a commitment to train credible scientific professionals who can enlarge the world’s understanding of the spiritually-enlightening correspondences between science and religion. We have an opportunity to help shape the world’s view of science and technology in terms of Divine revelation.
