Spring Internship at the Academy of Natural Sciences in 2005
By Freya Smith
As a biology major pursuing environmental education, I was lucky to spend my spring term as a Museum Education Intern at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Instead of going to class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I commuted to the city and worked in the museum's education department. I started out doing a whole lot of observing, asking questions, and getting to know the staff. As I gained familiarity, I began teaching lessons to school groups, developing supplementary materials for teachers, and helping out in various other capacities. By the end of the term, I felt confident as a contributing member of the team – and I had earned 3 college credits! This internship was an excellent way to finish off my senior year at Bryn Athyn College.
