Financial assistance is available in many forms, and most students are eligible for one or more of the following types of assistance. An overview of available financial aid is found in more detail in Bryn Athyn College's Guide to Financial Aid [PDF].
Federal Financial Aid:
Bryn Athyn College participates in Title IV federal financial aid programs. For information about federal financial aid, see www.studentaid.ed.gov.
All students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who wish to be considered for financial aid should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students should use the school identification code 003228 to designate Bryn Athyn College as a school they wish to attend in the appropriate section of the form. Students who complete a FAFSA may become eligible for Stafford Loans, parent PLUS loans, Pell Grants, and several types of state grants.
Institutional Grants:
Institutional grants from Bryn Athyn College are available when students are not eligible for federal financial aid (such as international students), or when federal financial aid does not fully meet the student's Financial Need as determined by our internal formula.
Students who wish to apply for an institutional grant must apply for federal aid and submit Bryn Athyn College's Application for Financial Aid [PDF]. International students who are not eligible for federal student aid should submit Bryn Athyn College's International Student Financial Aid Application instead [PDF].
The information provided in the application is used to calculate the applicant's Expected Family Contribution (EFC), and accordingly, the student's Financial Need. Our internal calculation is based on the formula used by the U.S. Department of Education, but differs slightly in a few key areas. Therefore a student who applies for both federal financial aid and an institutional grant may have a different EFC result from each application. Applications that are received late will be considered, but grants will be awarded only in so far as funds are still available. Applications received more than two weeks after the first day of term will only be considered for the following term.
Special Grants:
There are several non-need based grants available for students in special categories:
Some New Church societies offer private scholarships to students who are members of that congregation. Interested students should contact their society's treasurer.
Student Employment:
All students may apply for part-time on-campus employment for which they will be paid semi-monthly. Applications for student employment are mailed to students prior to entrance and are also available from the College Office (267-502-2543). Students who are given on-campus jobs may arrange to pay a portion of their tuition and fees via an automatic payroll deduction over the course of the school year.
Institutional Loans:
In cases where students have maximized all other resources for assistance (federal financial aid, institutional grants, special grants, and student employment) and yet still are unable to pay the necessary fees, a loan from the Academy's Asplundh Loan Fund may be available. Eligibility for a loan from this fund is determined on a case by case basis, and application for it should be directed in the form of a letter to the Associate Director of Financial Aid at PO Box 711, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009. These loans are non-interest bearing while the student is still in college or professional school.
