The College methodology is based on a four-point philosophy of financial aid:
- Parents have the primary responsibility to pay for their children's education, and will, as they are able, contribute funds for their sons' and daughters' education.
- Students, as well as their parents, have a responsibility to help pay for their education.
- The family should be accepted in its present financial condition.
- A need analysis system must evaluate families in a consistent and equitable manner, while recognizing that special circumstances can and do alter a family's ability to contribute.
Criteria for awarding institutional grants are as follows:
- Institutional grants are awarded on the basis of a family's demonstrated Financial Need as computed from the information supplied in the Application for Financial Aid (see above).
- The method for evaluating financial aid takes into account factors such as: the number, ages, and tuition owed for other children in the household, additional dependents in the household, cost of travel to and from school, family's assets, and the income earned by the applicant and/or student in the prior financial year.
- Financial aid is awarded on an annual basis; thus application must be submitted as soon as possible each year and meet the deadlines as described above.
- In the matter of divorce or separation of parents, the Financial Aid Office will (in most instances) consider the application of the custodial parent.
- Financial aid applications can be reviewed and an institutional grant offered to the student only after the student has been admitted to the College by the Admissions Committee. However, students should submit their application for financial aid according to the filing deadlines above regardless of their admissions status. Their application will be logged in according to the date it was received, and any grant for which the student is eligible processed as soon as the Admissions Committee notifies the Financial Aid Office of the student's admission.
- Financial aid is awarded to new students on good faith; continued receipt of financial aid after the first term and in subsequent academic years depends on the student's remaining in good standing as determined by Academic Advising.
