Associate Professor Cooper pursues estuarine paleoecological research in Maine.

<< Back

Dr. Sherri L. Cooper, Associate Professor of Biology at Bryn Athyn College, is pursuing a sabbatical at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine during the 2006/07 academic year.

Founded in 1805, Bowdoin is a highly selective liberal arts college enrolling 1,600 students. The sabbatical includes serving as Coastal Studies "Scholar-in-Residence," teaching a course in coastal ecology, and conducting estuarine paleoecological research – one of Dr. Cooper’s specialties – with faculty and students.

Professor Cooper’s research, which is funded by Rusack Faculty Funds at Bowdoin and the Coastal Studies Center, will focus on the Environmental History of Kennebec Estuary. Dr. Cooper looks forward to this sabbatical "as an opportunity to expand my horizons as a teacher and researcher. I hope to return with lots of new ideas and experiences."

Dr. Cooper graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1993 and spent the next several years working on environmental research projects at the University of Maryland. She also served as an assistant research professor at Duke University and is currently in her sixth year of employment at Bryn Athyn College. Professor Cooper's areas of professional expertise include paleoecology, ecology, estuarine ecology, diatom taxonomy, geochemistry, and palynology.
