Months of arduous rehearsals culminated in fine performances. Margaret Edson’s challenging script “stretched our students,” writes producer Nina Phillips. The intellectual environment of the College allows students the freedom to explore difficult moral dilemmas raised in the context of medical ethics. Do we make choices with our hearts or our minds? Does one person’s perception of “truth” overshadow that of another? What is the process by which we learn how to choose which path to take?
These are the questions with which Wit’s characters grappled, on a stage lit in soft browns and shadows, as the cast brought their characters poignantly to life. Many an audience member dabbed a teary eye, finding a new, profound, and personal meaning in John Donne’s immortal sonnet, “Death be not proud. . . .”
