
Located 15 miles north of center-city Philadelphia, the Borough of Bryn Athyn is nestled in the rolling hills of eastern Montgomery County. Nearby Huntington Valley--with shopping, restaurants, a market, pharmacy, and coffee shop--is within walking distance. Public busses run through Bryn Athyn regularly (bus route 24), and the Bethayres train station provides service to surrounding towns and center-city Philadelphia (via R3 West Trenton local line). Bryn Athyn College students participate in a number of community activities:
- Bryn Athyn Church (www.newchurch.org) and its many activities.
- Founded in 1970, the The Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust (www.pennypacktrust.org) is a nonprofit land trust headquartered in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. The Trust is staffed by professionals and volunteers dedicated to the stewardship of the lands that are protected by the Trust in its Pennypack Preserve natural area.
- Bryn Athyn Community Theater (www.bact.org) is a non-profit amateur group whose membership is open to residents of Bryn Athyn and other near-by communities, including students of the Academy of the New Church and Bryn Athyn College. It has been serving the Philadelphia region with high quality theatrical entertainment since 1981. Staffed entirely by volunteers, BAct produces two major productions a year, currently in November and May.
- Glencairn Museum (www.glencairnmuseum.org) educates visitors about the history of religion by using art and artifacts from a variety of cultures and time periods. Religious life through the ages is presented by means of a remarkable collection that illustrates religions as varied as ancient Egyptian, ancient Greek and Roman, medieval Christian, Islamic, Asian, and Native American.
- Bryn Athyn Fire Company (www.bafc.net) provides emergency medical services and protects 14,000 people in Bryn Athyn and Lower Moreland. Student members from the Academy Boys' and Girls' Schools and Bryn Athyn College work with community women and men of all ages as firefighters or ambulance providers.
- Bryn Athyn Orchestra (www.baorchestra.org) rehearses weekly on the high school campus and gives three concerts each year in the Academy's Mitchell Performing Arts Center.
- Bryn Athyn Thrift Shop (www.brynathynthriftshop.org) welcomes Bryn Athyn College students both as volunteers and as customers. They usually need help with sorting, selling, and moving heavy objects. Many a dorm room has been fully outfitted with discount furniture and accessories from "The Barn."
