Community service is central to the educational philosophy at Bryn Athyn, which is why it's a Bryn Athyn College tradition to spend the first day of school working together as a college to put that philosophy into action.
After everyone has arrived on campus and registered for classes, students and faculty head out into the surrounding community to lend a helping hand in our annual Service Day.
This year, with more students than the College has ever had before, the Service Day planning team had ambitious goals. One group traveled to Ivyland to rebuild a stone wall and repair a children's wooden playground. Other volunteers built a bridge for a bicycle race, rigged lights at the Mitchell Performing Arts Center, and cleaned up the Bryn Athyn Community Gardens. Students and faculty painted a mural, mulched, recorded voice overs for computer-based learning tools, painted, weeded, and wrapped trees to protect them from deer.
