McCurdy Scores for the Win with 1 Second Left in Overtime!

Bryn Athyn, Pa. - Blake McCurdy rebounded home a shot from the point by Ray Norfo with one second left in overtime to give Bryn Athyn College a dramatic 9-8 victory over Widener University, Friday night at the James F. Jungé Pavilion.

McCurdy led the Lions with five goals and one assist. Norfo followed up with four assists of his own. Tom Peffall notched two goals and one assist. Cody Myers and Drew Collins put in one goal and one assist respectively.

McCurdy scored the first two goals to give the Lions a 2-0 lead, before Widener netted their first goal. Tom Peffall answered back with two goals in less than two minutes. Myers scored with 17 seconds left in the first period, to give the Lions a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Widener came out flying in the second period, as The Pride scored six consecutive goals to take control of the game, 7-5 after two periods of play.

The Lions would not rest, as McCurdy scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the third period to tie the game at 7-7. With three minutes left in the period, Collins notched in a goal from Norfo to give the Lions a lead.

With only 45 seconds left in regulation, Widener scored to take the game into overtime.

Due to penalties, both teams played 3-on-3 for the first two minutes. With an intense start to overtime, the teams exchanged chances with each others. With 10 seconds left on the clock, McCurdy and Norfo went on a 2-on-2, Norfo shot the puck to the far side of the net to a crashing McCurdy on the far post, notching the winning goal.

Mike Mount made an incredible 45 saves in net for Bryn Athyn, including many game savers in the last few minutes.

The Lions return back on the ice, Sunday night at 7:45pm to face East Stroudsburg University.
