Our study abroad program includes an agreement with Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, where the many vibrant cultures of Europe and Asia meet.
Bahçeşehir University was founded in 1998 and is striving to become one of the world’s top universities. With a world-renown faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, Bahçeşehir is known for being progressive and innovative. All classes at Bahçeşehir are taught in English, and encompass many areas of study. The University has over 100 international partner institutions, drawing students from all over the world.
The city of Istanbul spans the Bosphorus, or Istanbul Strait, which provides access between the Mediterranean and Black Seas. Known as Byzantium to the Ancient Greeks and Constantinople to the Ancient Romans, Istanbul has been a significant part of trade routes since it was founded in 667 BCE. Bahçeşehir University is located in the historic Besiktas district on the European shore of the Bosphorus. There are many shops and restaurants convenient to campus, and Istanbul’s extensive public transportation system makes one of the largest cities in the world easily accessible. Visit the white marble Dolmabahçe Palace or haggle with the over-4000 street vendors at the Grand Bazaar market. On the weekend, take a ferry to the Prince’s Islands where cars are prohibited or get an authentic Turkish massage at a hamam.
Studying and living in the culturally diverse city of Istanbul will give depth to any Bryn Athyn College area of study. History and Religion majors will find the city particularly rich for primary-source education.
Bahçeşehir University Summer School in History has courses open to Bryn Athyn College students through academic exchange.
