History Major Internships

Internships in History through Bryn Athyn College are most conveniently found through Glencairn Musem, the on-campus museum about the history of religion. Of course, students also pursue historical internships in other places as well. Students have recently pursued historical internships at the Academy of the New Church Archives and at two local historic houses: Pottsgrove Manor, and Grumblethorpe.

Education Internships at Glencairn Museum

Bryn Athyn's history major benefits from the longest-standing ongoing internship program in the college. The Education Intern program at Glencairn Museum, though not offered exclusively to history students, provides one of the richest on-campus internship experiences available.

The "Edtern" program allows students to work with a world-class museum collection, giving tours, creating programs, and participating in and preparing for special events. Through their interactions with the public, Edterns learn skills in public presentation, project management, and professionalism. These experiences complement the program's emphasis on historical research—especially in the fields of medieval art and religious art, the museum's specialties.

In addition to the established historical internships available through the college, many students choose to create their own tailor-made internship. Bryn Athyn students have undertaken internships in exhibitry and collections management at Glencairn Museum, historical preservation and research at Cairnwood, and historic education at Grumblethorpe.
