Art & Art History Interdisciplinary Program

The Interdisciplinary Program in Art & Art History allows students to study the fine arts while making use of Glencairn Museum's rich historical art collections for the study of art history, while also exploring other interests in the liberal arts.

A total of 130 credits is required for the BA degree. The senior research essay or project serves as a capstone. Students will work with the humanitites program advisor to design their program.

Prerequisites:

One of the following art history courses:

  • Fine Arts 101: Aegean to Early Christian
  • Fine Arts 102: Renaissance and Baroque Art

If doing a senior project, one of the following studio courses is required:

  • Fine Arts 120: Metalwork
  • Fine Arts 122: Photography
  • Fine Arts 125: Ceramics
  • Fine Arts 128: Forging
  • Fine Arts 130: Glass Painting
  • Fine Arts 140: Drawing and Painting

Art & Art History Program Requirements:

Three of the following 200-level courses:

  • Fine Arts 210: Nineteenth and Twentieth Century
  • Fine Arts 212: Medieval Art
  • Fine Arts 213: Topics in Twentieth-Century Architecture: Bryn Athyn's National Historical Landmarks
  • Fine Arts 260: Studies Abroad
  • 3 terms of Glencairn Museum Internship

If doing a senior project, one of the following studio courses is required:

  • Fine Arts 220: Metalwork
  • Fine Arts 230: Ceramics
  • Fine Arts 240: Drawing and Painting

Any 2 of the following 300-level courses:

  • History 301: Historical Methods
  • Fine Arts/History 308: The Art and Culture of Ancient Egypt
  • Fine Arts 313: Topics in Twentieth-Century Architecture (if not taken at the 200-level)
  • One of the following:
  • Fine Arts 399: Topics in Studio Art (must be taken if doing a project)
