Religion Interdisciplinary Program

The Interdisciplinary Program in religion combines study of the theological writings of Emanuel Swedenborg and world religions with another supporting field of study.

A total of 130 credits is required for the BA degree. The senior research essay or project serves as a capstone. Students will work with the religion program advisor to design their program.

Prerequisites:

One of the following:

  • Religion 105: God, Man, and Creation
  • Religion 110: Systematic Theology

Religion Program Requirements:

  • One scriptural course, chosen from the following:
    • Religion 220: The Torah
    • Religion 221: The Histories and Prophets of the Old Testament
    • Religion 222: The Gospels
    • Religion 223: The Apocalypse
  • One world religions course, chosen from the following:
    • Religion 283: Pre-Christian Church History
    • Religion 284: Christian Church History
    • Religion 295: Islam
    • Religion 296: Eastern Religious/Philosophical Thought
  • Two doctrinal religion courses, chosen from the following:
    • Religion 210: Divine Providence and Human Prudence
    • Religion 215: The Lord
    • Religion 273: Religion and Marriage
    • Religion 310: Studies in Arcana Coelestia
    • Religion 315: The Spiritual World
    • Religion 320: The Last Judgment, the Second coming, and the new Church
    • Religion 335: The Human Mind
    • Religion 380: History of New Church Doctrine
  • One of the following:
    • Religion 305: Universal Doctrines of the New Church I
    • Religion 306: Universal Doctrines of the New Church II
  • One additional course at the 200-level or above in religion or a supporting field

Religion courses counting towards freshmen and sophomore residency requirement cannot be counted toward the religion interdisciplinary program.

Of the courses taken for the religion interdisciplinary program, at least 6 credits (two courses) must be taken at the 300-level.
