Previous
productions of BAC ROCKS! have included tributes to
Pink Floyd (2003)
and The Beatles
(2006). BAC ROCKS! 2008 performed a tribute to CREEDENCE
CLEARWATER REVIVAL. The show also
had a short set of BLUES
songs. There was plenty hand clapping, foot stomping
and sing along as the band performed this music, which
is inspired and rooted in areas of the south that were
particularly damaged by the Hurricane Katrina, on a
set inspired by a southern Bayou!
Three
shows were performed in the Mitchell Performing Arts
Center, Bryn Athyn, PA:
8 PM on Wednesday, October 8,
2008
9 PM on Thursday October 9,
2008
8 PM on Friday October 10,
2008
All
the proceeds from this, the fifth production of Bryn
Athyn College Rocks!, supported the service
trip to Pearlington, Mississippi, where Bryn
Athyn College students aided in the Hurricane
Katrina Relief Effort. The
students took part in the ongoing work with damaged
buildings and properties and their work included renovations,
construction and cleaning. The
service trips, arranged by the student organization
C.A.R.E., are part of Bryn Athyn College's service
learning program.
BAC ROCKS! 2008 band members included Beth Kindred (lead
vocals), Will Righetti (lead vocals), Johanan Odhner
(vocals & percussion), Doug Keith (drums), Ryan
Cook (guitar and vocals), Jeremy Henry (bass), Fredrik
Bryntesson (guitar), College Dean Chuck Lindsay (keyboards),
Devon Heinrichs (saxophone), Joe Henry (guitar), and
Steven Lindrooth (guitar).
On
August 26, 2008, students and faculty helped to construct
the set for the BAC ROCKS! 2008 show. This work
was part of Bryn Athyn College's annual Service Day
during which the college community participated in different
service related projects. The set for the show (desiged
by Naomi Haus-Roth) is inspired by a southern bayou,
which fits in well with the choice of music (inspired
and rooted in the areas where bayous form an integral
part of the landscape) and the purpose of the fundraiser
(Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort).
Students also earned academic credit from Bryn Athyn
College's service learning program for their involvement
in BAC ROCKS! 2008. Of the five student internships,
two focused on aspects of the theater production itself,
and the other three involved students earning credit
for their participation in the musical performance..
