BAC ROCKS! - Tribute Fund Raiser Shows
Performed by Bryn Athyn College Students, Faculty and Alumni

TICKETS to BAC ROCKS! 2008

Bryn Athyn College Rocks!, abbreviated BAC ROCKS!, was originally conceived in 2002. The basic concept is quite simple: to raise friends, awareness and funds for Bryn Athyn College and have fun in the process. The means to reach this end: music performances staged in the theater building on campus, the Mitchell Performing Arts Center. Bryn Athyn College Rocks! focuses on sharing the joy of music using a band composed of a mix of Bryn Athyn College students, faculty, alumni and friends. In this way, every event is a true celebration of the College.

Bryn Athyn College Rocks! has previously been performed to full houses in the Mitchell Performing Arts Center in the springs of 2003, 2004, 2005 and in the Fall of 2006. These first four productions benefited the new College Science Building (The Grant R. Doering Center for Science and Research), which is now under construction. The upcoming 2008 production benefits the College's SERVICE-LEARNING PROGRAM and, in specific, the SERVICE TRIPS that students from the college participate in. This year’s service trip is to Pearlington in Mississippi where Bryn Athyn College students will help with the HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF EFFORT.

The choice of music has been different for each BAC ROCKS! production. In 2003 the band performed An Evening of Pink Floyd Music. The following year the focus shifted to a Tribute to Classic Rock, and the show included a rendition of the Beatles song “Hey Jude” that featured the College Faculty on backing vocals! That spring the band also performed an outdoor show at the main College building Pendleton Hall during the Bryn Athyn College Spring Weekend. The 2005 show was based on a series of mini tributes to bands including Queen, Chicago, the Allman Brothers and the Police. In 2006, BAC ROCKS! performed a tribute to The Beatles. The shows took place on October 18, 19 and 22, and the set, designed by Naomi Haus-Roth, was a replica of the famous rooftop on which The Beatles played their last ever live performance in 1969. Bryn Athyn College students and faculty helped constructing the rooftop set as part of the College's annual service day. To promote these shows the BAC ROCKS! 2006 band performed a surprise show on the rooftop of the dining hall.

This year's production is the fifth BAC ROCKS! production since it all began six years ago. BAC ROCKS! 2008 will perform a tribute to CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. The show also includes a short set of BLUES songs. The set for the stage has been constructed in part by students and faculty during the College’s service day on August 26, 2008. The set is inspired by a southern bayou, which fits in well with the choice of music (inspired and rooted in the areas where bayous form an integral part of the landscape) and the purpose of the fundraiser (Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort).

The shows will take place in the Mitchell Performing Arts Center on October 8, 9 and 10, 2008 and as usual, the band is composed Bryn Athyn College students, faculty and alumni. This year's band features Beth Kindred (Bryn Athyn College Junior) – vocals, Will Righetti (Bryn Athyn College Alumnus) – vocals, Ryan Cook (Bryn Athyn College Senior) – vocals and guitar, Johanan Odhner (Bryn Athyn College Alumnus and Faculty) – vocals, Doug Keith (Bryn Athyn College Sophomore) – drums, Jeremy Henry (Bryn Athyn College Alumnus) – bass, Fredrik Bryntesson (Bryn Athyn College Alumnus and Faculty) – guitar and Steven Lindrooth (Bryn Athyn College Alumnus) – guitar. There will also be appearances by special guests! BAC ROCKS! 2008 also has a Facebook group.

Students also earn academic credit from Bryn Athyn College's service learning program for their involvement in BAC ROCKS! 2008. Of the five student internships this year, two focus on aspects of the theater production itself, and the other three involve students earning credit for their participation in the musical performance.

Working with a lot of great people and wonderful musicians for a good cause has been such an enjoyable experience for all involved. Needless to say, the events would not have been possible without the voluntary contributions of these people. It should be stressed that although the songs take minutes to perform live, the work at home learning the songs and with the band at rehearsal has meant countless hours of work for all involved. This commitment has often meant that the band members have had to sacrifice other pursuits and time with friends & family. It is therefore with gratitude that we thank all those who have helped out with the shows. Moreover, a wonderful aspect of Bryn Athyn College Rocks has been the friendly and supportive mood in the band. It has been a lot of fun to practice and perform these shows!
