CARE Community Service Organization

If you're like most young people today, doing community service is high on your priority list.

CARE is our student-led service organization. Joining the CARE leadership team will help you gain leadership experience by designing, organizing, and facilitating service projects. Or you can just participate in projects organized by others.

CARE offers service opportunities regularly on- and off-campus. Some are just a few hours long in nearby communities or in Philadelphia, while others are week-long trips to other states or countries.

Some CARE events are spur-of-the-moment: a student sees a need and coordinates people to help, such as with packing supplies for Hurricane Katrina victims or spending an afternoon with children with special needs. Other events occur annually and are coordinated far in advance, including our school-wide Service Day (which marks the beginning of each academic year) or participation in our Nation's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

Local service opportunities:

CARE also works with HELP Philadelphia, providing fun and educational events for inner-city children of single parents. CARE volunteers plan regular events for HELP Philadelphia throughout the year.

Service Trips

Meeting needs further away from campus is also a part of CARE's mission. On past trips, our students and faculty have ventured to Arizona, Mississippi, Florida, Massachusetts, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic to:

  • Paint
  • Garden
  • Clean, rebuild, and improve low-income homes and churches
  • Restore order in hurricane-devastated areas
  • Run camps and youth activities

Multiple service trips are offered each year—often during Fall and/or Spring breaks.
